Analysis

Loudermilk Conservation LLC provides sampling, mounting and preparation of samples for cross-sectional analysis, and creation of exposure windows.

Cross-section samples are  photographed using a polarized light microscope in visible and ultraviolet-excited visible light to examine and document the component parts of paint films on both historic painted finishes and paintings. Used in conjunction with exposure windows, this can provide information about the original paint surfaces and layer structure of paint films.
